This time we are going all bold with our choice… The London-based designer on our watch is creative, original, romantic and has hellenic roots. Mary Katrantzou stepped in the fashion scene two years ago after completing her BA and MA at Central Saint Martins and has stolen the hearts of all designer critics and fashion shapers. Her latest fashion show for Spring 2011, an inspiration originating from her favorite subjects, such as “fashion photography, the World of Interiors, vintage lampshades and Architectural Digest” led her to produce a collection that got her on first place of the New York Times scorecard. Our eyes gazed with enthusiasm with the concept of the collection and we dare to say that we haven’t seen anything that original, daring… but wearable, since the great days of Marni, Matthew Williamson and Versace. Mary Katrantzou, who has also previously worked for Sophia Kokosalaki, definitely carries the St. Martins methodology of “take the risk – become your own” that many alumni have followed-suit and succeeded, like John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. Keep notes ladies… will be wearing rooms with a view this spring!
