Today, we are honored to host the co-founder of Small Girls PRagency and New York blogger, Bianca Caampued. She runs the ‘BiancaRocksOut‘ page with huge success, which works as a personal diary and a mood board as well. We take a sneak peek in her room, searching a bit of her closet and personal inspiring items that characterize her style. Let us introduce you this firecracker. . .
NR: Co-founder of a PR company in Williamsburg, N.Y., fashionista, blogger. . . you seem to have it all! How do you manage to stay in style with this crazy schedule of yours?
NR: It looks like you’re getting a kick out of blogging. It’s not only about fashion… but more of a personal diary. What’s your source of inspiration and what you’d prefer to leave out?
BC: My life and the things around me is my inspiration. I don’t have a lot of time to make long-form meaningful posts (though they make their way in there every now and again), or report on what’s new and happening in the fashion world. It’s mostly a visual display of what I’ve been doing and what things that I like, which Tumblr is such a great platform for. Party photos, photobooth outfit pics, dance videos, that awesome dress I want to buy… it’s all about what I’m really enjoying at that moment. I write like how I talk and think, so there’s a lot of slang, ‘yayyy’s', afterthoughts (in parentheses), ellipses, and a whole lotta snarkiness in there. I sometimes wonder whether my followers actually get my sense of humor. Obviously my mood dictates some of the feeling in those posts, so if I’m cranky I might post a picture that says “EVERYONE SUCKS”, but even when I delve a little deeper into the emotional happenings in my life I keep it a little vague or tell it like a story (this also keeps people guessing. . . gotta stay mysterious to keep boys. . . i mean. . . readers interested)
NR: How do you define the perfect wardrobe?
BC: It’s not defined by quantity, or even quality of what you own (and someone in the fashion world just keeled over and died). . . it’s one filled with pieces that you love. Love to look at, love to feel, love to wear (even if they’re ripped, stained, and have definitely seen better days). Pieces that have a story behind them, or stories that await them. Pieces that you love so much, you can’t live without (. . .I may have just described the perfect boyfriend also). It’s not about what everyone else is dictating that you should own, it’s a wardrobe that you’ve curated, built and grown based on your own tastes and the life you live.
NR: Who are your favorite designers?
BC: This question is hard. Life is hard.
NR: You have a wonderfully large wardrobe. What’s your everyday style?
BC: I’m generally in boots, black tights, denim cutoffs, and a motorcycle jacket. I wear a lot of black and “nudey peach”. . . my business partner and I both do – it’s become the “Small Girls PR” colors. American Apparel is my savior in the spring/summer. I LIVE in their onesies and dresses. To go from office to party, I add a little bit of sparkle in there somehow.
NR: Who are your style icons? I see you have a soft spot for the Olsens… any others?
BC: Definitely the Olsens. . . mostly Mary-Kate, but sometimes Ashley. Victoria Beckham. Bianca Jagger. Uncle Jesse from Full House. The boys in my life (I love wearing men’s clothing) and Batman. Yes, definitely Batman.
NR: Where do you usually shop?
BC: 75% of what I own I’ve bought at thrift stores (mainly Cure Thrift Shop in the East Village), Urban Outfitters, and American Apparel. The other 25% comprise of things that were gifted to me or that I got for free (15%), and ‘other’- i.e. specialty boutiques and other mass retailers (10%). I really wanted to make an infograph for this question.
NR: What are your favorite items in your closet?
BC: My white puma canvas boots. I call them my Star Wars boots because people called me a Star Wars Princess every time I wore them. They’re out of commission now, but they’re still part of my life, in a display case in my closet. My American Apparel figure skater dresses and tri-blend rompers. They’re all I need to pack for a music festival and I’m good to go. The Sherri Hill prom gown that I wore to the Small Girls PR prom. . . it was the icing to the cake that was wearing a prom dress every day for 30 days.
NR: What do you love most about the Netrobe app?
BC: Netrobe is actually the app that I’ve been dreaming of since I was a kid. I used to take polaroids of pieces in my closet, and kept them in an album, and had a recipe box with index cards of outfits that I’ve put together or could put together. I then moved on to taking pics and creating excel sheets doing the same. Netrobe is all of that, except better because it’s basically done for you. I take closets very seriously, and having a tool where you can see everything you own, save looks you’ve worn, and pull outfits together without pulling apart your physical wardrobe is amazing.
NR: Thanks Bianca for your time. . . you definitely rock!
