Valentino’s longtime partner Giancarlo Giammetti inspired the project of creating a virtual museum showcasing a permanent retrospective of Valentino’s dresses! It was two years in the making and the museum was funded entirely by Garavani and Giammetti. Amit Sood, the creator of the Google Art Project which is currently bringing real brick and mortar museums to the digital, admitted that although he knew very little about Valentino he was blown away by the project, as Google provided technical support.
The museum is 10,000 square meters and its library containing 5,000 images of dresses, photos and drawings as well as 180 fashion show videos. There are 7 different galleries including: the 7-roomed ”Themes and Variations” which breaks down Valentino’s work into whites, animal prints, red, embroidery, etc. and the “Very Valentino”, a retrospective from the 60’s to the 00’s. Finally, visitors can find “A Masterclass with Valentino” in which the design icon talks about creating some of his most famous couture dresses, using Natalia Vodianova as her muse. The Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum is easy and free to download and the virtual tour is breath taking as you can observe the dresses in 360 degrees and navigate through the different exhibition spaces in real time!
