You can’t count on controversial designers without Thom Browne’s name. From his signature shrunken suits to Michelle Obama’s and Joseph Gordon Levitt’s outfits, this designer constantly redefines men’s and women’s aesthetics. After he graduated with a business degree, he preferred to leave business behind and sell his car for a career in fashion. He started working with old-fashioned tailors to learn the fabrics and craftsmanship, and was led to believe that the best training is on the job and not in fashion schools. After the Giorgio Armani to the Ralph Lauren showroom in 2004 he presented his own collection which was welcomed with fascination by the industry. His inspiration from the 50’s and 60’s is now noticeable in his signature. Asked about his desire to stay on the edge, says that ‘I had no interest in being just another designer’.
