By the mid 80s, Madonna had several No 1′s under her Boy-Toy belt and everybody wanted to recreate her style. Dark lengths, bleached-blonde highlights tied up with ribbons, bushy brows, red lips and that beauty mark became the look for fashion-forward material girls everywhere.

Showing Blonde Ambition and Jean Paul Gaultier’s pointy bra appreciation at the start of a new decade, with that infamous top-knot pony that many  ’90s teens tried to emulate.

 Looking all gothic at the Cannes Film Festival of 1991, with Shakespeare sister-style slicked down hair, pale skin and blood-red lips. At the end of that year, she was looking very young and pretty, with a cute curly bob and beret.

Entering the Erotica era with the release of the rudest song ever written! By now Madonna was on her Girlie Show tour and causing chaos wherever she performed, namely in Puerto Rico, where on stage, she was seen to rub the country’s national flag between her legs. Her platinum pixie crop and penchant for edgy, über false lashes during this period is one of our favourite Madonna looks of all time.

Another album, another look. This time Madonna opted for a more demure approach to suit her new collection of vocal stylings. Something To Remember, her 7th studio album, was mostly ballads, so she left out the leather and created a more romantic make-up and feminine look.

In 1995, for the premiere of Evita, her most critically-acclaimed performance to date, Madonna came over all Eva Peron for her moment in the spotlight. With a sculpted up-do and Hollywood red lips, there’s no denying the Queen of Pop looks great on the red carpet. In 1996, she gave birth to Lourdes Maria, Madonna had ‘toned down’ her look to fit the new mum role. Her side-parted, relaxed curls and soft make-up really take the years off.

Looking gorgeous in 1997, away from tours for a while, motherhood clearly suits Madonna. Naturally straight hair with soft fringe and minimal make up. In 1998 she returned in the studio and back at the top of her game, the Frozen era saw a radical style swap for Madonna, who took to wearing flowing black dresses and henna-painted hands. Her hair went darker and her skin, paler than ever – perhaps not her best look too date.

By the time Ray of Light was topping the charts, she invented  the hippie chic look, that we still love today. Her wavy honey-hued locks and peachy make-up took years off! In 1999, another dramatic appearance! The chestnut bob is pretty on her, but not striking enough for an icon like Madonna!

In the beginning of 2000, she was looking both pretty and stylish with fuchsia lips, glossy curls and block highlights. At the end of that year, she discovered the cowgirl side of her self! The Music era brought about another iconic look and the whole world copied her two-tone hair!

In 2001,  Madonna’s blonde choppy bob and muted make-up give the singer a softer finish and in 2002 she gave styling lessons with her 50′s Great Gatsbian hair look and the neutral make up. The naturally blonde and easy going chignon is still copied at the red carpet!

 In 2003, the Queen Of Pop at the launch of her first book for children, English Roses, is a more mumsy Madonna than we’ve ever seen. Later that month, Madonna was on the cover of every newspaper on the planet kissing the lips of Britney Spears, at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. Looking naturally pretty at the Channel 4 Music Hall Of Fame Final in 2004, with a full mane of glossy hair and peachy-toned makeup.

Another winning look for Madonna in 2005 with poker-straight locks. In 2005, Madonna released Confessions On A Dance Floor and returned to a more disco look with a contemporary twist! Hot pink lip-gloss and these much-celebrated Farrah Fawcett flicks!

This red carpet appearance rocked the 2006 Brit Awards. One of our favorites! Coming over all old-school Hollywood glam at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party of 2007 with Monroe-esque curls and  killer lashes.

 At the end of 2007, Madonna lost her hair length and stepped out with this stunning curly bob at her 50th birthday party, and we just loved it! In 2008, after the divorce with Guy Ritchie, she looked more glamorous than ever with a retro 60′s touch.

Attending the 2009 Vanity Fair Oscar Party without Guy, still looked elegant with a rounded face and natural look. Still making headlines and showing no signs of slowing down!  Madonna’s 2009 Met Ball look was undeniably extravagant with naturally curly hair with a Philip Treacy creation on.

Madonna goes glam with long loose waves and a full red glossy pout in 2010 and she looks fabulous. At the Vanity Fair Oscar party in 2011, she rocks a sleek and chic straight blonde do and heavy eyeliner. We love her glossy pout and glowing complexion.

At the 2011 Met Gala she looks ultra-glam and gorgeous with an old-Hollywood hairstyle and a popping red pout. Absolutely stunning. In 2012, at the premiere of WE (which Madonna directed), the queen of pop looks amazing. Recreating an old-school 20s Hollywood bob by tucking locks under to create a faux-bob and adding glamorous soft curls to the front.

We have really missed thinking about new hairstyles. . . don’t you think? Now that a new season is upon us and let’s face it we’re already thinking of summer, we’re simply planning ahead of a new look. The platinum look is surely an iconic one. . . and so easily misunderstood. If done wrong, it can be the reason of a really bad hair day – if not month. However, with a few things to consider. . . it can turn to a totally elegant and breezy look. So what are they? Simply and most importantly. . . keep your make up as soft as possible. Rule number 2? Never forget to style your hair. When going platinum, the “got out of bed” look doesn’t apply here. Otherwise, you’ll be looking more like Lindsay Lohan gone bad and less than Miss Lemon Breeland. Your choice of course. . .
