It’s only because you spoke and we listened… Not only you told us that you want to share the experience of creating outfits with your friends and getting their opinion on the spot, but we also noticed all the creativity that was going on behind closed doors, which made us think you were born to be leaders of style! So in a nutshell, in our brand new update – NETROBE’s 2.0 version brings you its own social network, where you will be able to see what people are wearing right now, get a sneak peek in their closets and show off your style among fashionistas from across the world. Exciting so far?

Let me show you how it works…

Start by creating a profile and letting people know more about you! You can add your blog or favorite site and a few words about who you are or what you love. Then, you’re off to the serious stuff! If you’re using NETROBE for the first time, the fun will start once you’ve started building your wardrobe. You don’t have to do it all at once! Just upload a few of your things step by step. You’d be surprised by how addicted you’re going to get with it!

What you need to do to build your wardrobe is to start by photographing an item with a camera or through your phone. Hit save and then select which category the item belongs to or create a new one. Then, NETROBE gives you the option to remove the unwanted clutter. For instance, what I do is hang my clothes on my doorknob and photograph them. The editing makes me feel like I’m a professional photographer and its fun. I remove the background with the circle tool or the magic wand and then I crop out the hanger’s teeth out of my skirt. And voila! You have now saved your item into your online closet and can browse through your entire collection.

Now, it’s time to show off what you got! Tap on the status bar on your activity feed and answer NETROBE’s question “What are you wearing?“. You can post an item from your wardrobe, an outfit you created or a look.

So here’s my how-to guide on how you can upload your dresses with the best results!

So on to the process now. . . I spent most of my Saturday and Sunday cleaning up my closet and sorting out my dresses. . . only to realize that my favorite thing to upload on NETROBE are just that – my dresses! If you’ve played with the app, you might have tried other items and some may have seemed to be a harder task to crack. It’s all a matter of process though. . . and discovering the tricks to take the best pictures. I found out a spot in my room that has a white background and hang my first dress for its first photoshoot. I snapped and I scored!

The background was removed instantly and it didn’t even affect my dress’s silver fringe. The flash takes all the credit for that one!

And now? Just hit save! See? Easy peasy! Your dress is saved on a virtual Polaroid.

Pick a rubber band. . . ideally a transparent one or neutral in color.

Stock the bag with paper or any material in order to bring out it’s shape. Hang the bag with the help of the rubber band so that you create a floating experience. You can do the same with your closet handle, if the background is less busy. Now take a photo of it. . . and remember to use flash in a gloomy lighted area for better results!

Start with the automagic tool of Netrobe to remove the majority of the unwanted background.

Now move over to crop… Eliminate the unwanted space by circling the item. You’re almost done! Brush off your details with the touch of the wand tool and you’re good to go!

It’s a shoes day today. . . We need to upload all of our winter shoes in our Netrobe closet pronto! How else we are going to be able to marvel at our shoe collection, let alone be able to dress smarter? Yup we know, there’s plenty of work to do. . . you have boots, ankle boots, peep-toes, sandals, wedges. . . and the list goes on! Well, wonderful! Don’t you want to document that precious collection of yours? We do! We know though that plenty of shoes are not so easy to upload without their backgrounds. They are tricky. . . We’ve dealt with such cases and here’s to show that its possible, if you take into account a few tricks we have up our sleeves.

Starting with the trickiest shoe of them all. . . a spiked pair of black Christian Louboutin peep-toes, you can see how to add them on your closet without showing the background. Snap a picture of the pair in a light colored surface. If the soles of the shoe are white and you want to keep them in the photograph. . . taking the picture with flash might help significantly.

Now it’s background removal time! Try the automagic tool – looks like a boxed circle – and if that swipes out all the details for you, go deeper in detail. Try the crop tool next. Pick a point with your finger and circle around the item you want to focus on. The rest of the unselected area will be removed completely. If you’re not good at circling the item, try selecting four points around it to create a box.

Finally, we’re getting there. Selecting the wand tool will give you the final perfect results. Pay attention to detail in this process for better results. Slowly start selecting the unwanted background and save often.

Finally, enter the item’s details and save! Ta-da! You’re done. . . and look how good our shoes look too. Last tip we’d like to give you is. . . in order to create that perfect vanity shoe closet, place your shoes to point towards the same direction always. They will look so much better. Think of your clothes like having your personal Net-A-Porter inventory to photograph and style. They have to look professional right?

So, do you love the concept of an online closet and yet you are skeptical of how difficult it is to add all of your clothes? Well, it’s not as hard as you think. We showed you in our last “How-to” post that if you follow certain guidelines adding an item is a piece of cake. Yet we know that not all items are easy to photograph and some clothes show better hanging. You’re right, they do. So we picked out a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress with a busy print and hung it up on the busiest and *white* background we could think of. It took us less than 2 minutes to follow the three steps. . . Just watch!

In this case the automagic circle tool won’t help you that much, so move over to our next fabulous little helper – the crop tool. You most likely are used to use the crop tool by selecting the four points that will create surround the item. That works too. . . but what’s even better is to circle with your finger around the key item making sure you never lift your hand from the screen. Fair enough? Now hit, apply!

Voila! Most of the clutter is gone. Move over to the eraser and start removing the rest of the background. You can adjust the size of the eraser to your liking. . . making it larger or smaller by pinching the screen.

Now we’re almost done! But since we are perfectionists, we’d like to remove the hanger bit too. The best way to do this is to use the crop tool and extract the item completely. Now, hit save! What a nice feeling! Our DVF wrap for the beach is stored in our online wardrobe! Cute, no?

So it’s here. . . are long-awaited iPhone application, just in time for our Fall wardrobe cleaning! Haven’t you already forgotten about what you own for the new season that just started and most importantly have no idea what you need to buy? So do we. That’s why we thought that creating an online closet will be the easiest way to manage all this wardrobe chaos we have to deal with every year. Let’s just start by adding a few items on our mobile closet to show you how easy it is to do it yourselves.

See? Easy peasy! Now all you need to do is click on save and fill in the details of the item you just added.
